What is the
Cuchubal Program?
Cuchubal is a traditional, informal savings circle model used in Guatemala and El Salvador.
THE
EFFECT
What do they do?
- Group Formation:
A group of 6 women commits to saving a fixed amount ($10-$20) each month for 6 months
- Monthly Payouts:
Members bring savings to meetings, and one woman receives the total saved that month.
- Monthly Coaching & Education:
Monthly meetings also include financial education and individual coaching for the women
- End-of-Cycle Matching:
For each woman who has fully participated in the cycle, WJI matches her total savings.
